Get to know Asma
Hi I'm Asma. I was born and raised in the suburbs of NY where I spent 30 years of my life (is also where I completed my physiotherapy degree) and then for a change in scenery spent the next 5 years in Southern California.
It is where I began my pelvic health career and completed continuing education training through the Herman and Wallace Group and the Institute of Birth Healing. It is also where I met my husband (after swiping right on a 'dating' app) while he was in LA for business.
After a brief 75 minute meet up at LAX airport (before his flight) we both knew that this was it. From that meeting we were married a year later in 2019 and that's when I moved to Dundee. Fast forward 5 years, I have two boys (4.5 and 2 y/o) and am continuing my journey of serving a much needed population of women here in Dundee with pelvic health issues.
My passion for the pelvis
The Importance of the Pelvis
The pelvis is an incredible structure that often gets neglected. There is so much that happens there! It is dynamic and complex as it sits in the center of the body- providing it with stability and balance when we are on our feet. The pelvis is especially important for women as it holds our reproductive, urinary and bowel organs, it is where sexual function occurs, and it is where a baby grows and is delivered from. Also, the rest of our body is attached to the pelvis - hips, spine, abdomen (tummy) and the bottom layer - the pelvic floor. This is why it is important to look at the individual as whole as there could be many underlying factors that could be contributing to pelvic health symptoms.
A Holistic Approach to Pelvic Health
With nearly 10 years of experience in pelvic health, I have developed a unique, holistic approach to treating symptoms rooted in the pelvis. My methods aim to create space and restore balance within the body, allowing tissues, muscles, organs, nerves, and bones to move and glide freely over one another. Recognising the interconnected nature of our bodies, I focus on creating balance starting from the ribs and diaphragm to the hips, pelvic floor, and feet, ensuring comprehensive care that addresses all potential contributors to pelvic health issues.
Transforming Women's Lives
This approach has been transformative for many women who have suffered silently with chronic pelvic health symptoms. By addressing the entire body's interconnected systems, I have helped countless women find relief and see real improvements, enabling them to finally begin their journey to resolving symptoms and reclaiming their well-being.
Would pelvic health physiotherapy help you?
Have you been suffering from ongoing back, hip, and/or pelvic pain that does not seem to improve with standard physio?
Are you experiencing bladder or bowel urgency, frequency, incontinence and/or constipation and kegels aren't helping?
Have you had a caesarean, hysterectomy, tummy tuck, prolapse repair, any other abdominal/pelvic surgery and things haven't been the same since?
Did you give birth to a baby and things just haven't felt normal?
Is sex painful?
Did you know that 95% of women who suffer with low back pain have a pelvic floor dysfunction? The pelvis could be the root cause of your symptoms!
What is involved in a pelvic health assessment?
I offer a safe space for you to discuss your concerns while I LISTEN to your story. Then I perform a thorough assessment that includes the following:

Posture and spinal movements
Rib and abdominal mobility
Breathing patterns
Hip range of motion
Pelvic bone mobility
Internal pelvic floor - addressing uterine, bladder, rectum and pelvic floor movement
Strength and coordination of the abdominals, hips and pelvic floor
Discussion of findings will occur throughout the assessment process and treatment will coincide. Areas of examination may not be all performed in the first session depending on severity of symptoms and complexity of condition.
A plan of care, a safe home exercise based program and follow up treatment visits will be discussed at the end of the assessment.
